Holy Thursday

O God, who have called us to participate

in this most sacred Supper,

in which your Only Begotten Son,

when about to hand himself over to death,

entrusted to the Church a sacrifice new for all eternity,

the banquet of his love,

grant, we pray,

that we may draw from so great a mystery,

the fullness of charity and of life.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Ghost,

one God, for ever and ever.

By celebrating the Last Supper with his apostles in the course of the Passover meal, Jesus gave the Jewish Passover its definitive meaning. Jesus' passing over to his father by his death and Resurrection, the new Passover, is anticipated in the Supper and celebrated in the Eucharist, which fulfills the Jewish Passover and anticipates the final Passover of the Church in the glory of the kingdom. (CCC 1340)

I give you a new commandment, says the Lord: love one another as I have loved you.

SPOT

Up, Spot, Up

Go, Spot, Go

Good, Spot, Good

Silly, Silly Spot

I'm 6 & 3/4 Yrs. Old.

Days of our innocence we realize again and cherish here & always. It's our history together. It's our poetry. Gratitude abounds for the care and attention given by those who made our young lives important to their days.

"Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around--nobody big, I mean--except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff--I mean if they are running and they don't look where they're going, I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be."

"Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them--if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn't education. It's history. It's poetry."

--J.D. Salinger, Catcher In The Rye, July 16, 1951.

A Beautiful Tapestry Of Life

Take me out to the ball game. Take me out with the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack. I don't care if I never get back. Let me root, root, root for the Dodgers. If they don't win it's a shame. For it's one, two, three strikes you're out at the old ball game.

"When I first started out in the business, I never, ever thought I'd be doing this for 64 years with one team. It never crossed my mind. It was day to day existence back then, and so it is today. You show up and do what today demands, not really looking too far ahead. Eventually you are able to look back and see all the days added together, which present a beautiful tapestry of life."

"I feel a tremendous degree of comfort in the Catholic Church. It's where I've grown up, where I've had the most important moments of my life. I've benefitted from the dedication of the nuns in grammar school, the reception of the sacraments and a rich tradition of prayers that you can take with you no matter where you are."

Walking The Dog, The Spinner,  Around The Corner,  Over The Falls, Three-Leaf Clover, Rocking The Baby, The Creeper, Loop-The-Loop, The Break-Away, Pin Wheel, Hop The Fence, Thread The Needle, Sleeping Beauty

There were Duncan Yo-Yo's, Red Radio Flyer Wagons, Home Made Skateboards, Schwinn Bikes, Lionel Trains, Comic Books, Barbie Dolls, Troll Dolls, Chatty Cathy Dolls, Baseball Cards With Gum, Go Fish, Old Maid, Crazy 8's, Jacks, Hearts, Spades, Monopoly, Chutes & Ladders, Sorry, Checkers, Scrabble, Candyland, Chess, Battleship, Risk, Matchbox Cars and G.I. Joe.

There were students in uniforms working at desks in orderly rows, peace and quiet and a teacher in complete control - seeing everything, knowing everything. There was the Principal's Office too.

There were tin lunch boxes with glass thermoses, the new Jack-In-The-Box around the corner, Winchell's Donuts, PF Flyers, Keds, hopscotch, wooden merry-go-round, jungle gym, marbles, card flipping, paddle ball, basketballs, footballs, baseballs and four-square.

The screeching sounds of nails scraping a blackboard, affecting every nerve, erasers soaring across the classroom every so often and the clouds of white powder from the pounding of erasers...aaah, those were the days.
